Melton Traditional Judo has been teaching the amazing art of Judo in Melton Mowbray for over 10 years. We have a team of very experienced and well trained instructors who love to pass on their expertise and passion for the sport of Judo.
Founded in 2013 by Shihan Sy at the same time as meeting Sensei Phil (who was a Blue belt at the time). The club grew alongside Jubilee Sports, moving from Saxby road dojo to the jubilee sports dojo when it opened on jubilee Street, with sensei Jason and sensei Glen joining the club shortly after.
The martial art of judo is most known for its prowess in throwing (tachi-waza) but also teaches ground fighting (ne-waza) in the form of pins (osaekomi-waza), Joint locks (kansetsu-waza) strangles (shime-waza). Perhaps the most important and useful skill learnt from judo though is learning to fall correctly to dramatically reduce our chances of injury also known as break-falling (Ukemi)
We teach judo in a way that embodies the traditional Japanese Judo ethics that Jigoro Kano, the founder of judo, encouraged within his own teachings. Judo is for everyone and everyone should feel welcome when learning judo no matter the level we are respect for our training partners is of the upmost importance because without our partners we cannot practice judo.
